TIRANA, May 5 /ATA/ The Democratic Party has urged the Central Election Commission to take immediate action to ensure the legitimacy of the voting process for the Albanian diaspora in Greece, raising concerns in a letter to State Election Commissioner Ilirjan Celibashi.
The Democratic Party asserts that initially, authorities guaranteed that each envelope would be delivered to the voter’s registered address, but this changed unexpectedly a few days ago.
“A few days ago, the CEC abruptly changed its approach. Through a simple notice published on the CEC’s social media, Albanian voters in Greece were informed that they must appear in person at DHL points to collect their voting envelopes. This abrupt change has not only caused confusion among voters, but has also raised serious concerns about the transparency, standards, and legitimacy of the process,” says the Democratic Party.
The Democratic Party argues that the change in the envelope distribution method is inconsistent with the CEC’s previous statements and regulations.
The Democratic Party further emphasizes that there have been reports suggesting that envelopes containing votes are not being delivered to citizens’ homes as expected, but are instead being systematically appropriated by certain individuals. According to the Democratic Party, these individuals are using rental cars with Albanian license plates to avoid detection.

These individuals act as both political party representatives and postal service employees, which violates both Albanian and Greek laws protecting the secrecy of the vote.
