National Strategy for Forensic Sciences, Hoxha: A step towards a more functional justice system

TIRANA, March 25/ATA/ Interior Minister Ervin Hoxha attended today a conference organized by the United Kingdom Embassy in Tirana on development of a National Strategy for Forensic Sciences.

According to the minister, “It is not simply an administrative task, but an important step towards a more functional justice system”.

Minister Hoxha said that, “Forensic sciences are essential for the criminal justice system. They provide the scientific basis for investigations, analyses and evidence, which help in solving complex legal issues. To achieve this, we need a coordinated approach, based on strategy and adapted to the needs of the country. A National Strategy for Forensic Sciences is not simply a working document. It is a Roadmap, which defines how we will improve the quality, independence and transparency of legal sciences in Albania”.

According to the minister, this strategy must be in harmony with international standards, especially those of the European Union and the European Convention on Human Rights.

The minister emphasized that from the analysis conducted and the data obtained, we need a legal framework to support the sustainable development of forensic sciences.

Further on, Hoxha said that, “Our scientific laboratories, despite years of investment, need modern equipment and technology to meet the growing demands. One of the main priorities remains investment in the training and development of experts in the field, which includes: Continuous training programs and specializations in different areas of legal sciences; Cooperation with academic institutions to improve education programs and create a new generation of experts”.

“In a world where technology is evolving at a dizzying speed, we must be aware of the implications that follow from its use”, said Hoxha.

The minister underlined that transparency and accountability remain essential for public trust./a.f/p.s./
