Esposito: Albania has implemented measures to prevent corruption

TIRANA, March 21 /ATA/ Albania successfully concluded GRECO’s evaluation, highlighting its strong efforts in combating corruption within the central government and security forces.

Gianluca Esposito, Director General for Human Rights and the Rule of Law at the Council of Europe, stated that GRECO’s goal is to assist member states in “establishing a corruption- proof system.”

“We are here to celebrate the publication and successful conclusion of Albania’s fifth round of GRECO evaluation. Let me take a moment to explain what GRECO does—it provides support to member states, and not just our own members. We also have two non-Council of Europe countries in GRECO, namely Kazakhstan and the USA. GRECO assists these countries in building corruption proof systems,” said Esposito.

Esposito stated that Albania has implemented measures to prevent corruption in two areas of the public administration.

Esposito emphasized that corruption harms everyone and that prevention is key to stopping it in the bud. He highlighted that Albania has established a system in line with GRECO standards to prevent corruption in central government institutions and authorities. Esposito stressed that corruption is not tied to nationality or geography but to personal integrity and effective systems. He commended Albania’s efforts to implement anti-corruption measures in two critical areas of public administration.

According to him, when there is political will, reforms can be implemented, adding that today’s success should not be viewed in isolation, as it is an integral part of the ongoing reforms in Albania.
