TIRANA, February 26/ATA/ Head of the Special Structure against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK), present at a meeting on the performance of justice institutions, organized by the Center for the Study of Democracy and Governance, emphasized that SPAK is able to conduct, in full independence and in compliance with the Constitution, courageous investigations even against senior officials. According to Dumani, the era of impunity is faltering.
“SPAK has shown that it is able to conduct, in full independence and in compliance with the law and the Constitution, courageous investigations against senior state officials, which proves that the era of impunity is faltering. Our investigations have also hit criminal groups involved in international drug trafficking, money laundering, human trafficking, criminal organizations whose objective is to commit criminal offenses, very serious offenses against life, especially against their opponents. The increase in SPAK’s capacities has laid a solid foundation in complicated cases of corruption and high-ranking public officials”, said Dumani.
Dumani underlined that, “The partners have more trust in SPAK and this has been reflected in the increase in cooperation and the conduct of joint investigations with them, mainly with EU member states, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Latin American countries and other partner countries in the region”.
“Also, relations with Interpol EuroJust have been strengthened and intensified and thanks to their coordination and assistance, there have been carried out real-time cooperation and successful investigations”, Dumani further underlined.
Dumani highlighted that there has been progress made in the crackdown on the economic power of organized crime and corruption of high-ranking officials.
“The value of assets confiscated and seized in total in 2024 has reached 59 million euros, including cryptocurrencies that are increasingly being used by criminal organizations for both criminal activities and money laundering,” Dumani said.
Dumani underlined that the fight against corruption and organized crime requires close cooperation between prosecutors, the state police and other institutions.
Dumani concluded by saying that no external influence will weaken SPAK’s investigations.
“You must have faith in the integrity of SPAK prosecutors, in their commitment to complex investigations and processes that respect all parties. We guarantee that any kind of external influence will not violate or weaken our investigative strength in fulfilling our constitutional and legal obligations as well as our mission towards society”, said Dumani. /j.p/p.s./
