TIRANA, Feb 26 /ATA/ The Democratic Party chairman, Sali Berisha, during the presentation of the 2025-2029 governance program for former political prisoners, emphasized that today, Albania is experiencing its second dictatorship.
During the presentation, Berisha stated, “We discuss this program at a time when Albanian society, Albania, is experiencing its second dictatorship. It is experiencing a dictatorship in which a direct descendant of a communist regime executioner uses the most brutal means possible against political opponents and the opposition.”
Berisha said, “Today, we are under a regime where the drug dictator, much like the dictator of the 1950s, wields total control over every aspect of power in the country. He controls every decision-making, treating the nation’s wealth as his own and that of his criminal factions. While today’s dictator doesn’t have a State Security service like the former one, he has the same instruments of terror that the old dictator used.”
The leader of the Democratic Party said that “The communist regime in Albania, in terms of violence and repression, has rightfully been compared to the Nazi regime at the peak of the war. Yes! Karls Jaspers mentioned that in Germany, being an opposition figure during the war meant essentially preparing your own grave. But in Albania, even during peacetime, opposing the regime meant having to open either the grave or the prison and camp doors. That is the reality. The violence and genocide under the communist regime affected about 20% of the population. However, the genocide under the current “godfather” has driven away 45% of the population in just 10 years. This is ethnic cleansing, this is genocide. Why is everyone leaving? Because they cannot survive. They are leaving due to poverty and despair.
