TIRANA, Feb 17 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama congratulated Kosovo on the 17th anniversary of its independence on Monday.
The government head has chosen to post a photo of the Kosovo flag on the occasion of the 17th anniversary of independence.
“Good morning Kosovo. Happy Independence Day and prosperity always!” PM Rama said in a post on the social media.
Kosovo celebrates its 17th anniversary of independence today, marking the pivotal moment when the country declared its sovereignty on February 17, 2008.
The declaration of Kosovo’s independence was the culmination of a long and difficult process that had its origins in Belgrade’s oppression of Kosovo’s ethnic Albanians, in the 1990s. For years, the citizens of Kosovo suffered the consequences of ethnic cleansing by the Serbian regime of Slobodan Milošević, which resulted in a War of Liberation (1997-99). International peacekeeping troops were deployed in Kosovo after the war.
