Turnout in Kosovo parliamentary elections at 40.04 %, lower than in 2021 and 2019

PRISHTINA, Feb 9 /ATA/ – Polling stations closed at 7p.m. in Kosovo’s parliamentary elections on Sunday, Central Election Commission said.

CEC spokesman Valmir Elezi said in a statement after the voting process that a total of 40.4% of over 1.9 million voters had cast their ballots, a lower turnout than 48.78 %  in the previous parliamentary elections in the country four years ago.

Exit polls in Kosovo suggest that PM Albin Kurti’s ruling Vetevendosje party has won Sunday’s parliamentary elections.

According to UBO Consulting’s polls, Vetevendosje won 40% of the vote, the PDK won 21.4%, the LDK 19.3% and the AAK 7.2%.

Other exit polls released to the media also suggest a Vetevendosje victory, with a slightly lower lead over the other parties.

This is the first time that Kosovo holds regular legislative elections since independence in 2008 after parliament has completed a full four-year mandate.

Some 28 political parties and one independent candidate ran in the legislative elections, with four candidates for the post of the country’s next prime minister, namely incumbent Albin Kurti from the Vetevendosje! or Self-Determination Movement Party, Bedri Hamza from the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) , Lumir Abdixhiku from the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), and Ramush Haradinaj, the leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo- Nisma and other partners.
