Pre-trial hearing for DP leader Sali Berisha postponed

TIRANA, Jan 31 /ATA/ – A pre-trial hearing for the main opposition Democratic Party (DP) leader Sali Berisha, as part of the investigation into the privatization of the former “Partizani” sports complex, has been rescheduled for February 5.

Today’s hearing at the Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime saw the conclusion of arguments from the defense lawyers of Jamambër Malltezi, who is under house arrest.

The session also saw the presentations from the defense team of businessman Fatmir Bektashi, and two other defendants, namely Xhimi Begeja and Andia Pustina.

Lawyers representing two companies involved in the case, Homeplan and Kontakt, also provided their defense statements.

Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, and his son-in-law Jamarbër Malltezi, are under investigation by the Special Prosecution Office (SPAK) in connection with the “Partizani” case.

Last year, the Appeal Court replaced Berisha’s house arrest with a requirement to report to judicial police. However, the court warned that failure to comply could lead to stricter measures.
