Vengu: In 2025, we plan to construct 12 new “Bailey” bridges

TIRANA, Jan 28 /ATA/ Minister of Defense, Pirro Vengu, announced on Tuesday that 12 new “Bailey” bridges will be constructed in different parts of the country in 2025, focusing on areas with the greatest need.

Bridges, as a vital link between communities, not only contribute to security matters but also improve the lives of citizens across Albania. The Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces will continue their mission to build them.

Minister Vengu, in a social media post, highlighted the story of Major Arben Rira, who has been engaged for years in the mission of building these bridges from the south to the north of the country.

“Being part of the Engineering Battalion, he and his team do more than just work with metal and wood; they build communication bridges for thousands of people throughout Albania,” says Vengu.

“Thus, the Armed Forces’ mission will progress at an accelerated pace in 2025, with the construction of 12 new ‘Bailey’ bridges,” states Minister Vengu.

Major Arben Rira, as part of the Engineering Battalion and the commander of the Bridge Company, says that his duty is to build bridges in emergency situations, during drills in the Engineering Battalion, and also in normal times.

“This work may seem the same every day, but in reality, it is something new every day. We do a lot of work in the community, and when you see a bridge completed, you get a smile from the people, a thank you, and for us, it’s a good omen. During the time I have been the commander of the company, I can say that 2,300 meters of ‘Bailey’ bridges have been built across the entire territory of Albania,” he says.
