Opposition protesters block main roads in Tirana

TIRANA, December 23/ATA/ The opposition’s routine protest in Tirana in context of its civil disobedience initiative, has started at 5:00 PM with blocking several of the main intersections. According to the Democratic Party, the protest is expected to last 3 hours.

Members of the DP leadership and DP MPs have been distributed to 5 points in Tirana. They have blocked traffic at Zogu i Zi, Bridge at Elbasani Street, Wilson Square, apartment block with painted arrows and near Tirana Municipality.

There have also been several clashes at the area of the apartment block with painted arrows, where a woman asked the protesters to allow the movement of vehicles, as she had a sick child and was taking him to the hospital. The police intervened, leading the movement of the vehicles in other directions, providing a temporary solution to the situation.

Head of the Democratic Party Parliamentary Group Gazment Bardhi was at the Wilson Square and asked the Police to respect the rally. “I will protest on the street. I will not protest on the balcony of my house,” Bardhi said. “You as police officers must guarantee our right to protest. You should also join protest,” Bardhi continued.

On the other hand, the police have demanded the opening of the roads, considering blocking of the roads a criminal offense. “Open the road traffic, it is a criminal offense,” were the calls of the police to the protesters.

For the first time in almost a year, Sali Berisha has appeared on the ground among the protesters to lead the opposition protest.

The chief democrat has again called for the replace of the government with a technocratic caretaker authority. Berisha highlighted the positive example of Greece and North Macedonia, which have sanctioned the caretaker government step until elections. /a.f/p.s./
