Tabaku: Negotiating groups should include as many interest groups as possible in discussion

TIRANA, Dec 12 /ATA/ – The Chair of the National Council of European Integration, opposition lawmaker Jorida Tabaku, hosted an awareness-raising meeting on Parliament’s role in the country’s European Union integration process, an event attended by students of the Academy of European Integration and Negotiations (AIEN).

Tabaku and participants discussed Parliament’s role in advancing Albania’s EU accession process, the progress of ongoing accession negotiations, challenges facing Albanian society, underlining that the integration process should not be handed in its political elements only, but also in terms of concrete reforms and alignment of the legal framework.

The opposition lawmaker said it was regrettable that the negotiation process was not becoming subject to a national discussion that would include a larger number of citizens and where interest groups would be able to better figure out the benefits from enforcement of the European legislation.

After the adoption of the negotiating positions, Tabaku underlined the importance of the negotiating groups starting and increasing their capacities by including as many interest groups, young people and citizens in the discussion, because this would help to understand more clearly and realistically how feasible the set objectives are, how prepared business is to adapt to the reforms that need to be undertaken and what investments it needs to undertake, how prepared farmers are to adapt to the obligations arising from European legislation, etc.
