TIRANA, Dec 13 /ATA/ – The European Union will closely monitor Albania’s progress in delivering on EU-related reforms, adoption of legislation and strategies being implemented in respect of the EU’s fundamental values.
Addressing a coordinating meeting with heads of relevant institutions on Chapter 23 of EU accession negotiations, which covers the areas of judiciary, anti-corruption, fundamental rights and rights of EU citizens, the Head of the Political Section at the EU Delegation to Albania, André Rizzo, focused on further implementation of the justice system reform, the fight against corruption and protection of human fundamental rights
Rizzo reiterated a statement by the European Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, who recently said that there is a realistic prospect that we can bring one or more enlargement countries to the finish line during this Commission’s mandate.
“Albania has clearly signaled its objective to conclude the EU Accession negotiations by 2027 and the Commission will be ready to support this ambitious goal. However, it is up to Albania to mobilize all political and administrative resources to resolutely move forward,” Rizzo said.
He said that delivering on the country’s commitments and EU-related reforms without any delays should be main focus.
