TIRANA, Nov 6 /ATA/ – The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Igli Hasani told lawmakers at the Special Parliamentary Commission against disinformation and any foreign interference in the democratic processes that Albania faces constant hybrid threats.
“Tackling disinformation remains a challenge. Countries all over the world, including Albania, are facing this phenomenon, which is disrupting many pillars of our democratic societies. At a time when fake and misleading information is being intentionally disseminated in a bid to polarize opinions and the society and to undermine public trust in institutions it is important to understand that it is not just a tool to cause confusion, but also a weapon being used to destabilize, to influence political processes and undermine democracies using sophisticated means to support harmful agenda,” Foreign Minister noted.
Hasani stressed importance of national and international dialogue in the face of growing hybrid threats, noting that the whole region and Albania are facing constant threats.
“The Western Balkans, including our country, face real threats to their stability and security from foreign interferences and widespread disinformation practices. In this context, our region faces many challenges arising mainly from internal disputes and conflicts mainly because of influence from foreign hybrid factors. We are facing hybrid tactics and fundamental political changes alongside efforts to disrupt peace and Euro-Atlantic integration of our countries. As a reliable European Union partner and NATO member, Albania is committed to facing these challenges and providing contribution towards strengthening regional and international resilience,” Foreign Minister said.
