TIRANA, Oct 28 /ATA/ The Ministry of Tourism and Environment held in Korça the first consultative roundtable for the National Tourism Strategy 2024-2030.

The roundtable was attended by Deputy Minister of Tourism and Environment, Ilva Gjuzi, prefect of Korça, Nertil Jole, mayor of Korça, Sotiraq Filo, representatives of local institutions, partners involved in drafting the strategy, and tour operators.

During this meeting, it was presented the vision of the new strategy for the southern inland region, which includes the Korça region, highlighting its potential for ecotourism in protected areas, as well as its rich historical, cultural, and culinary heritage, creating opportunities to enhance Albania’s image as a new and attractive destination in Europe, based on investments, regulatory and fiscal policies in tourism, destination management, the development of tourism products, destination marketing, and capacity building.

During the meeting, participants made an overview of achievements and challenges in this sector, highlighting the necessity to strengthen cooperation synergies both within and outside the region. This aims to increase the number of local and foreign tourists and ensure year-round tourism.

The prefect of Korça, Nertil Jole, stated that “our region represents a significant part of the country’s tourist destinations. Korça is now visited in every season, while Pogradec is mostly associated with summer tourism. Meanwhile, visitors’ interest is also shifting towards the natural beauty and mountain climate of Kolonje, Maliq, Pustec, and Devoll.”

The new tourism strategy is based on six main pillars: investments, fiscal and regulatory policies in tourism, destination management, development of tourism products, destination marketing, and capacity building. This strategy is supported by three fundamental principles: social, environmental, and economic aspects.
