TIRANA, Oct 21 /ATA/ The government is committed to ensuring a rapid and sustainable pension raise.
This is what the Minister of Finance, Petrit Malaj, said at a meeting held on Monday in Tirana with the participation of Prime Minister Edi Rama and Minister of Economy, Culture, and Innovation, Blendi Gonxhja, while outlining the concrete govt. plan to tackle the challenge of ensuring a sustainable pension scheme and increasing retirement pensions.
Malaj stated that the government has increased salaries in the public administration across several sectors, and now it is time to address the pension increase as well.
“In the medium term, we foresee substantial increase, including an increase in the year-end bonus for pensioners. In the long term, we aim for a sustainable pension scheme that will guarantee higher pensions,” said the minister.
According to him, the 4.1% indexation of pensions is separate from the pension reform that we aim to address.
“4.1% is a legal obligation in response to the price hike and not part of our scheme,” declared Malaj.
Prime Minister Edi Rama opened a public discussion today with retirees regarding pensions, to address a duty and a legitimate demand at this stage when the Albanian economy has begun to take the shape of an inclusive economy. /j.p/sm/
