Microcredit scam, Manja: Legal changes for private enforcement services are ready

TIRANA, Oct 14 /ATSH/ The Ministry of Justice has drafted the legal changes on private enforcement services in the wake of the microcredit scam.
This is what Minister of Justice, Ulsi Manja, said in a media statement emphasizing that these changes are expected to be submitted for public consultation. The aim is to strengthen the control and monitoring mechanisms of the Ministry of Justice over this public service.
“In terms of institutional and legal treatment, I consider this process fully exhausted. There is a working group that meets almost every week with the Bank of Albania, experts from the ministry, and the Prime Minister’s office. We have come up with a clear action plan on approach to this phenomenon; the scale of this phenomenon is not as it has been portrayed in the media,” said Manja, referring to the issues with microcredit.

Manja stated that the legal changes for private enforcement services are ready.

“We have forwarded it to the National Chamber of Private Enforcement, but we have not yet submitted it for public consultation. As far as the Ministry of Justice is concerned, we are considering a package of amendments to that law to strengthen the control and monitoring mechanisms of the Ministry of Justice over this public service. We are on the right track to tackle this issue,” said Manja.

The minister announced that all bank accounts that had been frozen due to this process have been unblocked.
