Hoxha: Order and security at optimal parameters, zero crimes during tourism season

TIRANA, Sept 23 /ATA/-By Maela Marini/ Minister of Internal Affairs, Ervin Hoxha, in a hearing at the Parliamentary National Security Commission requested by the deputies of the parliamentary group of the Democratic Party, gave information about the state of order in the country.

Hoxha shared some indicators showing that the order and security in the country is at optimal parameters and are comparable to the member countries of the European Union.

“Albania, even this year, sees an upward trend of tourist arrivals. The figure of 10 million tourists has been surpassed under the slogan “Safe Stay in Albania”, launched in the run-up to the tourist season. “Thanks to the great commitment and contribution of the State Police, for the second year in a row, we had a season with zero criminal incidents involving foreign vacationers,” he said.

The minister emphasized that the number of vehicles that entered and left Albania reached 7.2 million, while the number of lives lost in accidents decreased by 17%, or 21 lives saved more than last year.
Regarding the serious crimes that occurred during the summer, Minister Hoxha affirmed that it is true that in August of this year there was an increase in the crime of “murder”, compared to other months.

According to the analysis of the 8-month indicators, we are almost at the same parameters as last year, which recorded the lowest number of murders in the last 3 decades”.

“During the period July-August 2024, a total of 12 murders occurred, of which 10 were resolved. Meanwhile, during this period, 12 assassination attempts were prevented. This is definitely proof of the good work by the police structures”, he added.
Regarding the arrest of persons declared wanted by the justice, Hoxha said that compared to a year ago, this figure is higher, both for those declared wanted nationally, and for those wanted internationally.
