Koçiu: Complex surgical intervention on 29-year-old patient successfully performed at QSUT

TIRANA, September 15/ATA/ Doctors at the “Mother Teresa” University Hospital Center (QSUT) successfully performed a complex surgical intervention on a 29-year-old patient with a rare congenital malformation (lumbar meningocele). She had been denied surgery for years due to severe mobility and sensation problems.

Minister of Health and Social Protection Albana Koçiu wrote in the social media about the operation.

Following a careful examination, Neurosurgeon Prof. Kita Sallabanda intervened to remove a large fluid-filled sac that was obstructing normal life. The operation took place in two stages, the second of which was successfully completed today”, wrote Koçiu.

Minister Koçiu said that this rare operation ended with complete success even due to the patient’s age. The surgeons managed to perform the operation without damaging the nerve functions and gave to the 29-year-old a chance for a better life. /k.s/a.f/p.s./
