Defence Minister: Armed Forces Academy to help in advancing military professionalism

TIRANA, Sept 14 /ATA/ – Defence Minister Pirro Vengu inspected Saturday the ongoing work on construction of the campus of the Armed Forces Academy, one of the main Ministry of Defence projects.

Albania plans to model its future Armed Forces Academy on the United States Military Academy (USMA), otherwise known as West.

Accompanied by the commander of the Armed Forces Academy, Brigadier General Bardhyl Nuredinaj, Defence Minister Vengu was briefed on progress of the project, an investment aimed at modernizing Armed Forces.

According to the Minister of Defence, the project’s first stage is set to complete by March 2025 and it includes construction of the new Faculty of Defence and Security building, as well as the student canteen. So far, 50% of the construction work has completed.

Vengu added that due funding will be provided to support the second phase of the project in order to cope with the enhancing capacities and to make sure that the campus becomes operational next season.

“Our goal is to build an autonomous academy modelled after the West Point academy,” he added.

Defence Minister said that another transformation is happening within the Albanian Armed Forces Academy. Albania’s primary military school for officer training will shift to a program based on the U.S. Military Academy at West Point’s education model. Now, the AAF Academy holds a three-year degree and commissioning program, but, soon, it will move to a four-year curriculum.
