German Embassy: Narta Lagoon, authentic and pristine

TIRANA, Sept 2 /ATA/ – German Ambassador Karl Bergner on Monday visited Narta, a lagoon of the Adriatic on the Mediterranean Sea in the central coast of Albania.

“Is there any enthusiastic traveller to southern France, who hasn’t been enticed by the stunning landscape of Camargue? Welcome to its Albanian version – the Narta Lagoon,” German Embassy said in a post on the social media, drawing a parallel between Narta Lagoon with southern France.

German Embassy team experienced pristine landscape, home to rare species over the centuries, including the Dalmatian pelican, rare duck species and a whole range of endangered fish species.

“Because that is what Albania is: authentic and pristine. And these peculiarities are treasures that are important far beyond the country and require careful care,” the Embassy said.

“Germany, as one of the world’s largest donors in the field of biodiversity and proud of its 16 national parks across the country, is convinced that a good balance between economic development and environmental protection is possible,” German Embassy concluded.

Narta and Karavasta lagoons, Albania’s largest wetland on the shore of the Adriatic Sea, are also becoming main bird-watching and wildlife destinations, increasingly drawing international tourist and nature lovers’ attention after the government ban on hunting years ago.
