TIRANA, August 29/ATA/ Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Igli Hasani stated today that, “The two peoples are very close and will continue to be very close, while we see Albania’s European journey even with the support of Greece”.
Asked by journalists in a conversation with them after the Conference of Ambassadors, regarding relations with Greece, Hasani said that, “In the history of two peoples, two of the oldest in the region, an individual cannot break a centuries-old relationship.”
“We evaluate our neighbors, i.e. Greece, Italy and Turkey while the Albanian nationals in the region are in the focus of the work”.
Hasani emphasized that, “The most important thing is the date for the second intergovernmental conference. This paves the way for Albania to become part of the European Union as soon as possible. In technical numbers, Montenegro is ahead, but politically, we are the country closest to the EU, the country that has the greatest consensus among the EU countries to become part of the Union as soon as possible”.
Regarding the pension agreement, Hasani said that, “The Albanian government has done its part in drafting, clarifying and defining the pension agreement between Greece and Albania”.
“Different with Italy, in the negotiations with Greece, there is the problem of changing names”, underlined Hasani.
Speaking about the law of war with Greece, Hasani said that, “The Parliament of Albania, on the initiative of some honorable colleagues, has offered Albania, but also Greece, a document on this important issue. Our two countries should overcome every obstacle and look ahead in order to be EU members together without the shadow of the past”. /p.s./
