EU growth plan, Hasani: Albania, ambitious package of projects

TIRANA, Aug 29 /ATA/ Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Igli Hasani said on Thursday that the growth plan for the Western Balkans, worth 6 billion euros, is one of the most ambitious packages of the European Union for economic growth and reforms in six countries, in order to expedite their integration.

Asked in a press conference about further details on the package, Hasani said that, “the growth plan is an interesting mechanism that the European Commission started testing 11 months ago.”

This mechanism, he said, certainly met with the solidarity of the six Western Balkan countries but also had the support of the EU countries themselves, because it is about funding from the member states themselves.

“It is about 6 billion euros that will be funneled into our region to advance reforms and strengthen institutions. The chief negotiator has a very ambitious package of projects which will be the essence of what we are offering and this package that the chief negotiator is offering to the EC will enhance the standard of services but also the level of work and the daily effort to have a serious and decent administration,,” Hasani stated.

He added that the package the chief negotiator has prepared is impressive and will make the real difference.

Regarding the commitment to diaspora registration, the minister stressed that, “it has been a long-running commitment of the government and all institutional mechanisms, to start work for identifying Albanians’ numbers wherever they are”.
