TIRANA, June 28 /ATA/ – Lulzim Basha, the leader of the Euro-Atlantic Democrats, reacted to the recent population census results released by the National Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) earlier on Friday.
In a post on the social media, Basha claimed that the housing and population census was “a delayed, opaque process, unprecedented in Albania’s history and unlike any seen globally.
He said that the government is not worried about “the mass exodus of Albanians.”
“The country’s depopulation concealed behind a delayed, manipulated and opaque census process, unprecedented in the country and unlike any seen around the world, is a direct outcome of a corrupt government serving the interest of a handful people, while plunging Albanian families into poverty and neglecting the mass exodus of Albanians,” Basha stated.
The opposition leader went on accusing authorities of a turning a blind eye to the widespread issues plaguing the country, citing a recent scandal in the healthcare sector, as well as the various systematic failures that are making the country uninhabitable.
“Albania doesn’t deserve its depopulation, the disintegration of the family, emigration of the youth, the aging of the population. Albania deserves better,” Basha said, adding that his party has unveiled “a concrete plan and reform agenda to combat corruption, deliver on good governance and provide Albanians the alternative they deserve.”
