TIRANA, June 27/ATA/ Minister of Health and Social Protection Albana Koçiu spoke during today’s session of the Assembly on the recent incident at the Oncology Hospital, stressing that she feels a moral obligation for this statement.
Koçiu emphasized that, “This is certainly a serious abuse of duty by a group of doctors, pharmacists, and health staff who have played with the lives of the sick, overcoming any kind of norms of professionalism and human feeling; it is an act and a behavior that has only one reaction, the legal, administrative, but also moral punishment”.
“Every one of these people for whom the Ministry of Health has launched an administrative investigation in addition to the investigation launched by the Prosecutor’s Office, will bear not only the weight of the law, but also the shame. Therefore, to sanction by law all those doctors, that I cannot even call them professionals anymore, who abuse their duty, who treat human life as a commodity in the wholesale market, will face punishments and sanctions which we will make present in this Assembly to amend the law of doctors, nurses, all health professionals, who will be deprived of the right to exercise their profession in case they intervene and make immoral acts that affect the image of health professionals”, underlined Koçiu.
Minister Koçiu also said that, “These days I have read and heard criticisms of people taking advantage of an event as an opportunity to overturn everything, every investment made, and every development that has been made in the health sector. No one can cast mud on those who work with devotion, with high professionalism. There are many examples of proof of professionalism of the medical teams”.
Furthermore, Koçiu expressed her conviction that many of the citizens, despite the problems they continue to encounter, have healthy experiences in our hospitals and not only from the services have they received, but also from the doctors and nurses who work in the health system./p.s./
