Higher education ministerial, Rama: Future cannot be protected by weapons, but by knowledge

TIRANA, May 29 /ATA/ The Ministerial Conference of the European Higher Education Area, with the participation of all countries, has gathered today in Tirana, carrying out its proceedings for the first time in the region.

The purpose of this conference is to approach the basic values of education, internationalization, academic freedom, institutional autonomy, social dimension and public responsibility of higher education.

Delivering a welcoming speech to the conference, Prime Minister Edi Rama said that, “This is a truly a moment of reverence being the first country in this region to host this important forum”.

Rama thanked the delegation from Ukraine for participating in this conference, as well as the president of the Higher Education Council of Turkey and the Minister of Education of Hungary, two friendly countries that, according to him, have helped Albania a lot.

“I simply singled out these two guests because we are very grateful to them for all that these two countries have done and are doing together with us, to help us in this journey of ours to build our education system properly and to learn from the best, like Turkey and Hungary. These were countries that came to us faster than the EU, while we hardly expected to have access to the European area of higher education, which we are very pleased that happened”, said Rama.

The prime minister emphasized that, “Our countries can be part of this potential and all the opportunities offered by the European area of higher education, having the opportunity to use all that great knowledge that exists”.

The prime minister also thanked Federica Mogherini, whom he congratulated for moving to the field of education.

“Of course, the future cannot be protected by weapons, but by knowledge. Weapons are important at a certain moment when life is at risk, but when you see that the democratic world has had the opportunity to use so much money to resist an aggression and meanwhile not so much in the field of education, it should make us think once again about this issue and reflect”, said Rama./r.e/p.s./
