New fast payment system project tested in Diber

TIRANA, May 17 /ATA/ – A new fast payment system was tried and tested for first time in the north-eastern Albanian region of Diber on Friday as part of a pilot project aimed at modernizing and enhancing effectiveness of the payment systems for both Albanian consumers and businesses.

The Deputy Prime Minister, Belinda Balluku, and the Minister of State for the Entrepreneurship and Business Climate, Delina Ibrahimaj, introduced the fast payment pilot project in two commercial establishments, namely a drug store and a bookshop in Diber.

The Deputy PM Balluku said that the project is designed to modernize and boost effectiveness of the payment systems through employment of digital technologies.

A total of 100 households and businesses have been selected for the first stage of the pilot project currently underway in several regions across Albania.

“This initiative is designed to promote innovation in the financial sector, as well as to improve involvement of all citizens to increase safety in transactions and payment systems,” Balluku said.

State Minister Ibrahimaj said that the goal is to ease consumer-business interaction by ensuring fast and safe and cheap payments.

Through this initiative, Albanian government and financial institutions are seeking to reduce cash payments, and promote use of digital technologies.

The project will be implemented from May to August 2024 in Tirana, Diber and Permet.
