Rama: We do not shield anyone, SPAK would not be up and running without SP

TIRANA, May 16 /ATA/ – By Maela Marini/ Prime Minister Edi Rama stated on Thursday that the SP stands firm on fighting corruption, adding that “if it wasn’t for SP, SPAK would not be up and running.”

In a televised interview, Rama spoke about the arrests of the SPAK while emphasizing that “the majority has set up systems that have diminished corruption in the country.”

Asked about the ministers and directors accused or convicted of corruption, Rama said that the SP does not shield any person who is involved in corruption.

“I have worked with over 40 ministers and of these ministers there are 3 or 4 in 10 years. The Socialist Party is strengthening and growing. I am only responsible for the fact that this corruption is being uncovered, because if it were not for the Socialist Party, SPAK would not be up and running,” he said.

According to Rama, “the system is not corrupt, because if it were corrupt as it is interpreted, Albania would not be at the negotiation table. The European Commission is the only institution that has tens and hundreds of people who check 24/7 the facts. Neither the television, nor the newspapers, nor the parties, nobody deals with the facts 24/7. They check facts and they know exactly what is what,” he said.

The Prime Minister emphasized that SP has set up systems and is continuing to set up systems that have cracked down on corruption.

“Corruption is not prevalent. This is explained by the fact that there is an in-depth fight against corruption and what we see is the result of this fight. This is a reason to give credit to the Socialist Party, which is the first and only political party in the history of the Albanian state since 1912 that let go of political control and puts it very simply: “I don’t care at all whether you are the spokesperson, whether you are the friend, whether you are the other… At this point there are no friends, no spokesperson, there is nothing else but distancing,” he added.

The Prime Minister emphasized that he would hold himself responsible if no former minister of the Socialist Party had been caught, none of the directors who have been caught, but only those from the other wing had been brought to justice.
