TIRANA, May 15/ATA/ Earlier this month, a team from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), as part of the biological control program for chestnut pests, launched the release of the Asian hornet in the massive of Tropoja chestnuts.
With the support of the “One country, one priority product” project of FAO, the concept of biological warfare was made possible for the first time through the dropping of the chestnut fly in Tropoja.
This is an important biological warfare process that protects chestnuts from pests while maintaining and ensuring production.
Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Anila Denaj said today that the government is committed to create a value chain for this product, in a biological way to preserve the environment, create economic value and network wonderful products “Made in Albania”.
At the 34th FAO Regional Conference that is being held in Rome, Denaj presented the Tropoja and Reç chestnut to colleagues from Europe.
“With the support of the “One country, one priority product” project of the FAO, the concept of biological warfare was made possible for the first time by throwing the chestnut fly. This procedure is also being extended to Reç area, in the Great Highlands. We are committed to create a value chain for this product, in a biological way to preserve the environment, create economic value and network wonderful products “Made in Albania”, said Denaj in a post on social networks.
The minister emphasized that the “passport” of Albanian products is being created.
“Not only Mrizi i Zanave Agri-tourism, Chestnut Hill and Lea Shpk where the presentation of their products was impressive, but throughout Albania where quality products are produced we are creating our food “passport” that we are proud of together with local farmers, producers and processors”, said the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development./p.s./
