TIRANA, March 19/ATA/ After a decade from the pension reform, the government is working with internationals on a new pension scheme in the country.
As one of the international institutions that is assisting the government in the preparation of the new scheme, the World Bank said that their recommendations will be on demographic challenges and the policy to encourage the payment of social contributions.
In a television interview, the Manager of the World Bank Office in Albania Emanuel Salinas said that the new scheme must be fair and sustainable.
Salinas stated that the 2015 reform should be reviewed, for several reasons, the main ones being the decline in the number of contributors, the aging of the population, informal employment and the increase in emigration.
According to him, “Education and communication on pensions is another area that needs to be focused on so that individuals can evaluate their benefits and understand that these benefits will be higher, the more years they contribute and the higher is this contribution”.
The pension reform that entered into force in January 2015 foresees a gradual increase in pension age by two months for each year and work years. Currently, for a woman to retire this year, she must be 61 years and 8 months old and have 38 work years and men who reach the retirement age of 65 must have the same work years. So, the social contribution and work over the years are key to benefit and even for the amount that the pension will have./r.e/p.s./
