DP chairman Basha presents in UN resolution on Ukraine

TIRANA, March 9 /ATA/ – Chairman of the opposition Democratic Party Lulzim Basha has presented a resolution on Ukraine during a special United Nations session in New York.

The resolution, already endorsed by the Committee on Legal Affairs of the Council of Europe, calls for confiscation of the Russian assets and their use to support Ukraine’s post-war reconstruction.

“Ukraine’s allies unanimously supported the resolution and the fact that Russia should pay for the damages it has caused in Ukraine,” DP chairman Basha said via a video message on Saturday.

“In my capacity as the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) rapporteur I had a series of important meetings to discuss my initiative on confiscation of the Russian assets,” Basha said.

“I had talks with ambassadors of various countries who voiced their extraordinary support. We also had talks in presence of senior Ukrainian officials, who put emphasis on the indispensability of finding an efficient solution to transfer frozen funds of the Russian Federation to be used as part of the post-war reconstruction effort of Ukraine,” he added.
