TIRANA, March 8 /ATA/ – The President of the Republic Bajram Begaj visited the Allied Command Operations, NATO’s Strategic Command, on Friday, where he met with the Supreme Allied Commander Europe, General Christopher Cavoli, to discuss cooperation and Albania’s role in regional peace and security and the country’s commitment to NATO operations.
Global security, security in the Western Balkan region, Albania’s role as contributor to peace, security and the region’s Euro-Atlantic path, as well as boosting Albania’s military capacities and the country’s direct contribution to NATO were some of the issues discussed at the talks between President Begaj and General Cavoli.
“The security situation has aggravated with the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and the brutal Russian aggression on Ukraine tending to spread to other regions too. The situation in the Western Balkans remains fragile, reminding us how much effort it takes to defend not only democratic principles, but also peace and security of our countries,” the Albanian head of state said.
President Begaj assured General Cavoli of Albania’s commitment to peace, security, and Euro-Atlantic values, as well as the country’s readiness to contribute to NATO-led missions and operation around the world.
President Begaj also expressed gratitude for the NATO investment in upgrading the Kuçova airbase, adding that Albania also welcomes NATO involvement and investment to transform the port in Porto Romano area into a naval base of the military alliance.
