TIRANA, Feb 29 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama stated on Thursday that the new growth plan is a key platform to speed up the European Union accession.
In a joint press conference with the EU Commissioner for Enlargement and Good Neighborhood, Oliver Varhelyi, Rama said that, “the new growth plan is a platform. In a nutshell, it is a key platform to accelerate our entry into the European Union. It is an instrument that will make this process tangible for people.”
“I brought up the cost of financial transactions. In Albania, but also in all countries of the region, we have many people who live abroad and by working abroad they continue to help their relatives, their parents, their families in the homeland. For every money they send, the transaction cost is 6 times higher than the cost of cash transactions between EU member states. The new growth plan will allow us to bring this cost to the same level as the member states. In this way, we will save half a billion euros. The plan will save the pockets of our citizens and our businesses half a billion euros”, said Rama.
This, the PM said, “is just one of these things. there are many others, which are part of this new growth plan, which gives us the opportunity to operate on an equal footing and follow the same processes as the member states”.
“These things usually happen when a country becomes a member. They are already happening before we become members”, said Rama.
