TIRANA, February 17/ATA/ President Bajram Begaj congratulated Kosovo on the 16th anniversary of the Independence Day, saying that, “February 17 marks crowning of dreams of the Albanian people of Kosovo for freedom and independence”.
“The independence of the Republic of Kosovo opened a new page in the history of the Albanian nation.
Albanians will always be grateful to our Euro-Atlantic friends who helped us and supported us in realizing our centuries-old aspirations. NATO’s intervention in 1999 marked a decisive turning point for the Albanian people and the citizens of Kosovo,” Begaj emphasized.
“The birth of the newest state in Europe was a challenge, but in less than two decades, Kosovo has made extraordinary strides in building institutions and a democratic and multi-ethnic society. Through efforts, achievements and many difficulties, Kosovo today has a perspective of development and prosperity on the horizon. Today, Kosovo is a success story in the Balkans in respect of human rights, with its lively culture and the youthful energy of a forward-looking people”, underlined Begaj.
President Begaj said that Kosovo, an independent state, is a positive, peace-loving and important factor for security in our region.
“We are two states, but one nation with one language and one culture. We must use this golden opportunity to show that we are capable of building modern states according to the democratic principles of good governance. The relations and cooperation between our two states are naturally strategic, of inalienable significance and with a unique role for stability, security, sustainable development and our common Euro-Atlantic perspective and the entire region”, emphasized Begaj.
“The terrorist attack against the Kosovo police in Banjska, a few months ago, shows how fragile peace and security are in the region. Hence, closer cooperation and coordination with our strategic allies, the USA and the EU, is essential. The dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia is just as important. EU-facilitated dialogue and strongly supported by the United States, the continuation of the dialogue is the only way towards peace, normalization of relations, as well as Kosovo’s membership in regional and international organizations”, emphasized Begaj.
Begaj said that, “I want to assure you that Albania will firmly continue its commitment to support Kosovo. We will continue to work for continuous international recognition and jointly promote peace and stability in the region, as well as support the aspirations of the Albanian people for a more prosperous future”./p.s./
