TIRANA, Jan 17 /ATA/ – The Special Prosecution for Organised Crime and Corruption (SPAK) will grill former Prime Minister Sali Berisha next week in relation to the privatization of a sports complex during the time he served as PM.
SPAK Prosecutors were to interrogate Berisha’s son-in-law, Jamarber Malltezi, who also faces corruption and money laundering charges, on Wednesday, and the former government head today.
However, media reported that the sessions were postponed at a request by the lawyers of the two.
The Special Court against Corruption and Organised Crime has placed former PM Sali Berisha under house arrest after he has been charged by prosecutors with passive corruption with regards to the privatization of a sports complex during the time he served as head of government.
Prosecutors allege that the decisions made by the government at that time favoured his son-in-law, Jamarber Malltezi, who benefited from this land privatization, which was later used to build a residential complex.
