DP says it won’t join ex-PM Berisha’s scenario to escape justice

TIRANA, Dec 21 /ATA/ – The main opposition Democratic Party stated Thursday that it won’t back the former Prime Minister Sali Berisha’s scenario to escape justice after Albanian parliament voted to remove his immunity in a session earlier today.

In a statement after parliament backed a request from the Special Prosecution against Corruption and Organized Crime, SPAK, to lift the immunity from prosecution of ex-PM Sali Berisha, DP voiced strong support for SPAK and readiness to lift the immunity of every person wanted by justice.

“This is an established standard and DP and its MPs will always pursue it. The parliament disruption prevented the DP parliamentary group from attending today’s session and vote in favor of removing immunity for MP Sali Berisha,” the statement read.

“DP lawmakers will never become part of the scenarios prepared by Edi Rama and Sali Berisha to use them as an argument to escape justice. They did everything they could to obstruct justice, but they failed,” DP went on saying through its statement.
