TIRANA, Dec 6 /ATA/-By Maela Marini/ – Albanian government approved Wednesday a bill to pardon around 600 prisoners, mainly women and minors.
In a press statement after a regular cabinet meeting earlier today, the Minister of Justice said that the bill, which requires a reinvigorated majority, will be forwarded to Parliament immediately.
Justice Minister said that the bill envisages reduced sentences or complete release for individuals to benefit under the criteria stipulated by this draft law.
“The principles of the bill on pardoning the prisoners are the principles of humanism, rehabilitation and good conduct of the convicts, defense of the public interest and protection of the juveniles who will benefit most under the proposed draft law,” Manja told reports.
Justice Minister noted that around 600 prisoners will benefit if majority of lawmakers adopt the pardon bill in Parliament, allowing them to join their families on the eve of the year-end holidays.
