“Beleri case,” Rama: No compromise when it comes to Justice Reform

TIRANA, Dec 6 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama announced on Wednesday that Albania will not lose a single minute in the integration process because of Fredi Beleri, the candidate for the municipality of Himara, arrested on the charges of buying and selling votes two days before the May 14 elections.

In a televised interview, pressed about Greece’s threatening statements that it will use its veto to block Albania’s EU accession process, Rama said that the majority has chosen to work and this was proved by the screening process.

“Greece has no right to interfere with the “Beleri case.” We will not lose a single minute de facto, as we did not lose momentum when the opening of accession negotiations was refused. We have kept up the work and this progress report is one of the best, we have made progress in all those issues, to our credit we continued the work. In this negotiation process, using the veto for internal reasons is a common issue in the EU. We won’t waste a minute. What has happened is that the screening process has been quite a success. We did it quickly and accurately, as we didn’t waste time”, said Rama.

The Prime Minister stated that Greece has no right on this issue, because according to him, this is a state that does not apply one justice for Albanian citizens of Albanian nationality and another justice for Albanians of other nationality.

“It is not a matter of minority rights. We have no problem with minorities whatsoever. We have delivered for the minorities what many other European countries have not done. Albania has its own problems, it has enough shortcomings to be kindly criticized, but no one can give lectures to this country as long as I am here,” he said.
Rama emphasized that Beleri case is in the hands of justice and he does not negotiate anything that runs against Albania’s greatest strategic interest, as is the Justice Reform.
