PM Rama: Ruling majority supports SPAK unconditionally

TIRANA, Nov 24 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama voiced Friday the governing Socialist Party’s full support for the Special Prosecution against Organised Crime and Corruption (SPAK).

According to him, SPAK should thoroughly investigate the January 21 events 12 years ago, when four peaceful protesters were killed during a protest in front of the then Prime Minister Sali Berisha’s office.

The government head considered the Jan 21 deaths the gravest crime to be committed by the state.

“SPAK has triggered debates. This has happened because SPAK has stirred up waters that have been stagnant for over 100 years. It is the first time in history of Albanian state that such a prosecutor’s office is operational and a group of prosecutors do what they think should do,” PM Rama said.

“I and the majority I lead support SPAK unconditionally, which means that we remain silent even when there is a reason for us to speak. Otherwise we would become part of a debate that wouldn’t’ help SPAK prosecutors in their work,” he stated.
