TIRANA, Nov 24 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama rejected Friday the accusations leveled against him by ex-PM Sali Berisha, stating that none of his family members benefit from any public funds.
“I don’t intend to comment or respond to the allegations leveled by someone who is on the black list of the United States of America and Great Britain for significant corruption and undermining democracy, and subject to Albanian justice for reasons everybody already knows,” PM Rama said at a press conference.
However, PM Rama said that shunning such allegations would trigger unjust misunderstanding vis-à-vis the cited individuals, who “are the target of a heinous way of taking advantage of speaking in the public.”
“My answer is simple: Never! In no case have my family members have ever benefited a single cent from any public funds,” PM Rama stated.
The government head responded also to the accusations over the alleged high costs of his charter flights.
“Availing myself of this opportunity, I would like everyone to know, including those who might be impressed by the absurd accusation over alleged millions of euros spent on flights. When on official trips in my capacity as Prime Minister, I fly with the respective aircraft. In other cases, I fly with regular airlines, at economic class and on my expenses,” he said.
