TIRANA, October 29/ATA/- In the year of the European City of Sport, in Tirana there are held numerous sports activities. The Albanian capital hosted for the first time the World Wrestling Championship U-23, where participated over 1100 wrestlers and coaches from 60 countries of the world.
Present at the award-giving ceremony, Mayor of Tirana Erion Veliaj said that in the year of the European City of Sport, the capital has hosted more than a thousand sports activities.
“Thank you for turning Tirana, once again, into a super sports arena. These mats are not only for wrestling; they are mainly for friendship. Of course, in those 5 minutes there is wrestling, but we have created friendship between athletes, teams and countries for the next 50 years. Therefore, today in a world that is teeming under various conflicts, it is very important that sport is an instrument that unites us and brings us closer”, said Veliaj.
He emphasized that this year Tirana has held about 1000 activities and this world championship of young people U-23 is just one of them. We will continue with the activities until the end of the year, turning Tirana into a capital of Europe for sports this year.
“We want to continue this every year, supporting the Association, even our champions, but especially sports in the community, opening all the gyms and making sure that our young people learn from the best in the world,” said Veliaj. /p.s./
