“NëFshat2,” students join forces to help community of Zogaj village

TIRANA, Oct 26 /ATA/ Students involved in the “NëFshat2” (In Village2) project, have engaged together with their mentor in activities to help the community of Zogaj village.

Fishing is the main business which generates economic income for the residents of the area and the students have rolled up their sleeves to clean the fishermen’s nets. The village of Zogaj is famed for its handicrafts, especially carpet weaving, and the youth team got a taste of this tradition passed down from generation to generation.

The days were enriched by visits to local businesses through friendly conversations and confessions with the villagers. The team of students under the name “Egërsinat e Liqeni” led by their mentor did not leave without enjoying the breathtaking views during the ascent of Mount Tarabosh, surrounded by rivers and the lake Shkodra, in which they then pedaled, concluding this journey of the first week.

Inspired by bits of history, picturesque landscapes, life and work in this village, it has awakened enthusiasm among the youth. Setting up an info-point, information boards for the village, support for women artisans, reuse of fishing boats for tours, fishing courses and promotion of the village through the village festival were among the suggestions discussed to broaden the range of opportunities that Zogaj offers.

During the talks with the residents, they raised issues that require concrete solutions, such as the improvement of electricity supply, management of rural waste and investments in the rural infrastructure.

“NëFshat2″, after the charming and picturesque village of Zogaj, will continue with the next stop to Ditari of Boboshtica with the ” Shtegtarët” and their mentor.

The “NëFshat2” project aims to involve young people in the development of work practices in villages, with the aim of providing their contribution with ideas to creation of models of Albanian tourist villages.
It involved 24 passionate students, divided into 6 groups, who decided to work closely with local communities for 10 days, to co-create and empower them to develop innovative tourism products that showcase their culture and unique heritage.
