TIRANA, Oct 19 /ATA/- By Maela Marini/ Prime Minister Edi Rama stated on Thursday that the Franco-German plan is the best thing that could happen to Kosovo now, emphasizing that the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, is personally invested in this plan.
In a televised interview, Rama was asked about the statement of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, on the issue of visa liberalization for Kosovo, during his visit to Tirana.
“He touched on the dialogue process like everyone else, but even more than others, as he is hurt by the fact that although he is personally invested in putting a plan on the table that is the best thing that could happen to Kosovo at this stage of its history, he told me during the discussion: “I do not intend to back down, unless those in Pristina pave way for agreement on the Franco-German plan”, he said Rama.
The Prime Minister added that President Macron’s statements should be carefully read by Kosovo as he spoke about the next few weeks, which are a golden opportunity.
“It was concerning that even public figures and fake profiles, instigated by public figures, launched an attack on him and on me, as though I have all the power to tell the French President you will do this or that”, said Rama .
Rama said that “the entire community of allies and friends of Kosovo, the Euro-Atlantic community, cannot be held hostage by defying their very determined and sincere effort to resolve the Kosovo issue.”
The Prime Minister emphasized that Kosovo should unilaterally do its part and I should not ask if Serbia is doing it or not.
According to Rama, “the Franco-German plan is ideal for Kosovo, in terms of political pragmatism.”
“The time has come for Kosovo to finally be freed from Serbia. The concern that Kosovo should have is not to keep the ball in its own court by playing defense all the time and trying to win owing to Serbia’s stupidity, but to remove the ball from its own area”, added Rama.
Prime Minister said that he speaks in the name of the strategic interest of Albania, as well as all of the Albanians.
“This is a golden opportunity, it is unfortunate to let go of it. That’s why I’m passionate whenever I talk about this because I’m in the loop about the dynamics and how the international community thinks about this, and without them Kosovo can’t take a single step”, he added.
