TIRANA, Oct 9 /ATA/ The chairman of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, confirmed on Monday the initiative announced a day before by the Democratic Party to strip the immunity of the MPs before criminal prosecution by SPAK.
Basha said that the amendment on this issue will be submitted by the DP parliamentary group within the month.
“The MPs need to be stripped of immunity before criminal prosecution by SPAK and the MP should bear responsibility for his statements”, he emphasized.
“What’s the point of immunity, when SPAK initiates an investigation against the MP? Why does a farmer go to the prosecutor without immunity, and even goes to pre-trial detention, while a deputy or minister who is charged with embezzling 5, 50 or 200 million euros cannot go without immunity being removed beforehand? Meanwhile, he gets away with it, as is the case of the former deputy prime minister, why? Today, this is a root cause of impediments to justice in order to bring corrupt officials, MPs and ministers before the law,” Basha said.
