TIRANA, Oct 6 /ATA/ The Foreign Minister of Kosovo, Donika Gërvalla, said on Friday in Tirana that Kosovo has asked the international community to impose sanctions on Serbia.
In a media briefing in Tirana, after the meeting of the Berlin Process Foreign Ministers, Gërvalla said that “the most realistic measure against Serbia is freezing the EU candidate status.”
“Germany is one of the main supporters of Kosovo. The USA, the United Kingdom, many EU countries are concerned about events in Kosovo, the attack in the North. If it had not been stopped, today we would have occupied territory and other conversations going on. It is important to understand the message and take all measures so that such a thing does not repeat itseld either in Kosovo or in other countries that are at odds with Serbia, which behaves like a mini Russia and thinks that those countries do not have their rights,” she said.
According to her, “the priority of Kosovo institutions these days is security. We need to make sure that the weapons seized are the majority of the stock brought in. Regarding security, we need our partners and friends. How the process will continue, of course the solution will be reached through dialogue, but the timing hinges on the international community. If Serbia gets away with it, then dialogue is out of question. Safety should be a priority.
According to her, it is impossible to engage in a dialogue with a party who pretends to sit down with you and on the other hand sets up military camps.
“Kosovo is the only party that persistently seeks the implementation of that agreement. We have asked the international community to impose sanctions on Serbia. It is clear that without sanctions there is no lesson to be learned. And the citizens of Serbia will have a hard time raising their voices against their country, which behaves aggressively towards its neighbors,” she said.
