Draft Law “On Private Pension Funds”, Mete: It encourages market development

TIRANË, 20 shtator /ATSH/ Minister of Finance and Economy, Ervin Mete, said that “The draft law “On private pension funds” aims to improve the legal basis to create enabling conditions for the development of this market and the promotion of pension savings”.

Taking the floor at the Assembly session, Minister Mete emphasized that the draft law is in compliance with European standards, as a useful and necessary instrument to improve the standard of living, through the provision of an additional pension, in addition to the pension received through the public scheme of pensions.

“The total net assets of private pension funds reached about ALL 6.2 billion, while the number of members was about 37,600, with an increase of nearly 3% compared to the end of 2022,” said Mete.

The minister pointed out that the improvements in the law address a number of problems and shortcomings of the existing law, approved in 2009.

He said that the draft law foresees two forms of pension funds: “Pension fund with open participation” and “Pension fund with closed participation”, as provided for in the IORP II directive of the European Union.

Mete went on saying that another innovation of the law is the increase of transparency and information to the members of the fund.
