TIRANA, Sept 6 /ATA/ – The next Berlin Process summit is set to take place for the first time ever in the Western Balkans region, precisely in Albania on October 16, German Embassy in Tirana said on Wednesday.
The goal of the Berlin Process is to deepen regional integration in a bid to bring the Western Balkan countries closer to the European Union.
The Berlin Process focuses on development of infrastructure, economy, regional youth exchange, reconciliation and science.
Through foundation of the regional youth organization RYCO (Regional Youth Cooperation Office), young people get to know their neighboring countries and realize that they have more in common than what makes them different.
Finalization of the roaming agreement also represents a success of the Berlin Process.
These are just two outcomes from which the countries in the region will benefit noticeably and which will prepare the region for EU accession.
Other benefits include better employment opportunities, creation of an integrated and competitive market; unlimited travel, education and employment opportunities in Western Balkans and an additional GDP growth by 6.7% in the WB countries.
The Berlin process was set up in 2014 as a platform for high-level cooperation between high official representatives of the Western Balkan Six (WB6) and their peers in Berlin Process host countries. The Process also involves the EU institutions, international financial institutions and the region’s civil society, youth and businesses.
