TIRANA, September 4 /ATA/ Speaker of the Assembly Lindita Nikolla opened today the new Parliamentary session with a short speech carrying the highlights of the last session and the ambitions for the new session.
Nikolla said that European integration remains the priority of the Assembly’s activities.
“The Assembly has continued to fulfill its responsibilities within the European integration process in its three functions: legislation, control and monitoring and election.
During this session, there were marked important achievements and events in the process of European integration. In July, the European Parliament approved the Report on Albania.
MEPs appreciated that Albania can and should complete the membership process in record time. The Commissioner for Enlargement suggested the opening of the first block of negotiations within 2023, she emphasized.
“On July 19, the 16th meeting of the Association Stabilization Parliamentary Committee took place. The meeting confirmed Albania’s visible progress in the membership process, our constructive role in regional integrations, the European Union’s appreciation for these achievements and the will for the process of expansion towards the Western Balkans”, Nikolla added.
According to her, the Assembly strengthened the review role of the compatibility of draft laws with EU standards, guaranteeing a better quality of national legislation.
The Assembly continues to implement the Action Plan for implementation of the recommendations of the European Commission Report for Albania 2022 and the fulfillment of reporting obligations within the framework of the EU-Albania joint meetings for implementation of the Stabilization and Association Agreement, during the screening process of the meetings with the European Commission.
“Now, that the center of gravity of integration activities is moving from Brussels to the region, the Assembly will support all the Government’s efforts for Albania’s leadership of the Berlin Process throughout 2023, so that our country can successfully fulfill its leadership in regional cooperation and the joint efforts of the peoples of the Western Balkans to join the European family”, she added./p.s./
