DP supports investigation into corruption affairs in health system

TIRANA, Aug 18 /ATA/ – The Democratic Party voiced Friday full support for the Special Prosecution against Organised Crime and Corruption (SPAK) and the Special Court against Organized Crime and Corruption and the ongoing investigation into the alleged corruption affairs in Albania’s health system.

The DP spokeswoman Mirela Karabina said in a press statement that the main opposition party fully supports investigation into the corruption affairs in the health sector with a direct impact on the citizens’ health and lives.

“The special anti-corruption body issued eight arrest warrants for politicians and high-level officials under corruption and abuse of office, official documents falsification and fraud charges and for their actions during procedures to award the concession contract on sterilisation of the surgical equipment,” Karabina said.

According to the DP spokeswoman, “the public is now clearly seeing that corruption, abuse of office and embezzlement of public funds has become a phenomenon marring the government of Prime Minister Edi Rama.”

SPAK on Thursday arrested the former Deputy Minister of Health Klodjan Rrjepaj and three other persons were arrested related to the concession about the sterilization of surgical equipment, signed in 2015.
