DP lawmaker: Oil oligarchy dominates market over many years

TIRANA, Aug 15 /ATA/ – The main opposition Democratic Party (DP) lawmaker Jorida Tabaku on Tuesday blamed what she called “the oil oligarchy” for raising the oil and gas prices in recent days, saying “oligarchs have dominated the market over many years.”

“During last session, DP parliamentary group scored a victory by pushing for dismissal of the oil boards and by fighting against the oil oligarchy that has dominated for so many years. However, do you know why you all feel under the shadow of high oil prices?”Tabaku said in a post on the social media, listing reasons behind the soaring fuel prices.

“The cartels: the oil oligarchy still dominates the market game and has created a coherent sphere of its interests. These cartels shun the law and set the oil price caps they wish,” she said.

“The Socialist taxation: a liability for the citizens that is translated into profits for the oligarchs. The government and the oligarchy work together in a miserable partnership. As you see the oil price going up, half of its price is justified through the high tax rates you pay,” Tabaku stated.

DP lawmaker underlined that restoring trust in institutions, revitalizing the economy and opening up are the solutions both in business and in politics.
