Rama: Routine skyscraper and pile of mud

TIRANA, August 11/ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama reacted today to the debate on the construction of the iconic “Mountain of Tirana” skyscraper providing some reasons why he supports the project and also responding to all those who cast mud at this project.

The prime minister emphasized that the aim is to bring to the limelight the maximum of the radiant and attractive power of Tirana, by building another iconic skyscraper, which is not financed or built by the state, but is made possible by a completely private agreement between the owners, investors, architects and engineers.

“Here, the relevant state authority has not only the duty to pave the way for the legitimate development of a private property, in accordance with the vision of the development of the capital, but also the right to demand from developers the highest possible architectural and engineering quality” , he said.

PM Rama reminded that almost a year ago, there was organized an international competition during which there was chosen the project of the Danish studio CEBRA, for the skyscraper that today, one year on, has been targeted as an object of casting political-media mud.

Then, the winning project had no contest, said Rama.

After almost a year of preparation of the executive project, which included one of the largest engineering companies in the world, Arup, as well as after paying a tax of about €4 million to the Municipality of Tirana, the company in agreement with the land owners surrounded the land to set up the construction site.

PM Rama concluded by saying that present-day Albania has become a new destination in the Mediterranean. Albania’s seas and mountains have been always there. But, it has achieved this level thanks to years of work, Urban Renaissance, well-targeted investments in infrastructure, agro tourism, the support with grants from the European Union government, the archaeological parks and cultural monuments, high-quality private investments in the hospitality industry and of course, the radical transformation of the great heart of Albania, Tirana, where the built skyscrapers are the powerful engines of change, optimism, hope and ambition for the future./p.s./
